Joni,
I'm sure you wouldn't remember me; but once upon a time, (1976-1977), I wrote to you for over a year. I was an inmate in the Kentucky State Prison system. I was 19 years of age, and God had changed my life. Reading your book, I was inspired by your art, and your drive to reach out and achieve the new goals that you had set for yourself. So I reached out from my prison cell. I was blessed to have been able to correspond with you then, and God has continued to bless me in many ways to this day. I sing in Branson, Missouri, I have a wonderful wife; and, I serve a Risen Saviour Who has promised to be with me always.
When I was corresponding with you, I was doing time under an alias name, (I'm sure that I told you at the time), hence the name, "Reggie Nuttall".
I am writing now to tell you that I have watched your life blossom over the years, and I am so happy that you have accomplished so much with your life. This is from stirring up the "Gift" that is within you, and reaching out to others. And Jesus said, "To him that hath, more shall be given..." Never forget to reach out to those less fortunate than yourself, as you did with me when you responded to the first letter I wrote to you.
I have no idea of whether you will ever read what I have written here; but, I felt inspired to write it anyway. Love In Christ, Daryl Irish/aka/Reggie Nuttall

i have known about you, joni, for years--i had a brother who also suffered an accident that left him a quadriplegic, and when i read your story, it brought tears to my eyes, for my brother had those same feelings--we all felt so helpless, not knowing what to do or say--many times he said he couldn't even commit suicide...i admire you, your courage, your faith in God..yes, you will be jumping and dancing one glorious day, just as my brother will..may God bless you today.

Hi Joni,

Your life has inspired me. Just as I was reading your story, this idea came to me. Maybe the term "differentially directed" might be applicable. Forgive me if I made it seem too complicated. The idea just seems appropriate in that God has used you in ways and for people you might not otherwise have met or inspired.

Joni, I'm praying God will give you strength (one day at a time is how He likes to do it) and as we spend time in His presence, in the Holy of Holies, He gives us His strength. In His presence is fulness of joy and the joy of the Lord is my strength so we must get into His presence to receive. I want to recommend 2 books to help you to overcome daily: along with Bible scriptures read Spurgeon's Garden devotional and Streams in the Desert by Cowman.

Joni, I recently read your book "How to be A Christian in A Brave New World" as research for a college paper. Your perspective has really opened my eyes. Now I am seeking out your other books and reflecting on my faith. I work full time in a nursing home and have wrestled with questions concerning Gods plan and human suffering. I wish I had found your story years ago. You have helped me so much so that I may continue to help others with clear conviction. Thankyou.

Dear Joni, I am truly impressed by your story and had not heard of you until I read a short article by you on the anniversary of the AWD act. I am a social worker and work with predominately the chemically dependant and have also worked with brain injured clients as well. I hope that in my 20 years of practice, I have always looked my clients in the eye and helped as much as I am able. But I took exception to one statement you made -that most look at others with disabilities and say "I'm glad that's not me". I think this is a perfectially normal thing to think and then to thank God that I may perhaps be of service to those who do suffer. I don't believe that thought creates bias or pity or lack of compassion. I hope you understand what I am saying because I have felt privileged to work with the clients I have met over my years of service and deeply respect the work you have done. sincerely, Pat
